Montauk has embarked on an aggressive growth plan to expand our portfolio of successful LFG-to-High Btu and LFG-to-Power projects and to establish a market-leading position in renewable energy credit and carbon capture markets.

New  LFG-to-Power in California, Texas, Oklahoma and New Jersey

Montauk has initiated efforts to build a 20 MW LFG-to-Power facility at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine, California.  The project will utilize Solar Mercury 50 turbines generators.  These engines are capable of meeting the stringent California emissions requirements units without modification or augmentation.  When completed the facility will be one of the largest Renewable Energy projects based on landfill methane in the U.S.  Moreover, it will be designed to grow as LFG production at the landfill expands and will provide a dependable expanding source of “Green Energy” to nearby Orange County communities and the greater Los Angeles area.

Concurrently with our California efforts, Montauk recently acquired the rights to develop LFG-to-Power projects at landfills located in Texas and Oklahoma.  These landfills are much smaller than the Bowerman Landfill and, as such, are expected to provide only enough landfill methane to support power generation  capacity on the order of 2 to 5 MW.  These efforts are representative of Montauk’s commitment to investing in small-scale Renewable Energy projects which often benefit smaller American towns and communities.

In New Jersey, Montauk has plans to expand its existing 10 MW LFG-to-Power project at the Monmouth County Reclamation Center.  This award winning project is located in the midst of perhaps the most energy constrained part of the U.S.  Importing energy from outside the region is difficult due to transmission line capacity limitations.  As a consequence, our Monmouth project stands as a valuable source of local Renewable Energy production in an effort to constrain the ever rising cost of energy.

New LFG-to-High Btu, Medium Btu and Carbon Capture Projects

Montauk recently commissioned its newest LFG-to-High Btu production facility at the Rumpke Landfill in Cincinnati, Ohio.  It is the 6th such plant in our active portfolio and the 7th in our history - far more than any other developer.  As the industry leader, we remain committed to LFG-to-High btu technology.

In addition, we are aggressively seeking opportunities for direct-use Medium Btu projects and those which seek to specifically capture and maximize Renewable Energy and Carbon Credits for future global trading.
